Accounting for 11 per cent of India’s GDP, the construction industry stands to be the second largest in India after agriculture. It consists of three main segments, namely:
Real estate construction: residential and commercial construction
Infrastructure building: roads, railways, power, etc.
Industrial construction: oil and gas refineries, pipelines, textiles, etc.
The construction sector drives India’s overall development and hence, enjoys intense focus from the Government for initiating policies that would ensure the creation of world-class infrastructure in the country. Construction Industry is poised to become the largest employer by 2022, employing more than 75 million people. India to be the third largest construction market globally by 2030, with its contribution to GDP increasing to 15% by 2030.
